The Slippery Slope
We’ve all been there... as close to the point of no return as we can get. Satan’s lie will say “you’re not going to get hurt”, “you’ll be alright”, “God did not say you would die”, etc.
The grass in the picture above is wet, but a casual glance would say otherwise. I am on or by this slope several times a day and have injured myself several times, one time I sprained my ankle on Mother’s Day...that went over well. Every time I have injured myself I have slipped on the wet grass.
For some people I know, including myself, attempting to get as close to sin as possible without falling is commonplace. We are walking on a wet grassy hill, a slippery slope if you will.
In Genesis 13 Lot set up his camp near Sodom, the Old Testament sin city. The Bible goes so far as to say “Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.” in Genesis 13:13. In the city of Sodom the men were “great sinners”. Lot was walking near the wet grass.
In verse 12 of the very next chapter the author says that Lot was “dwelling in Sodom”. He was NEAR sin city, now he LIVES in sin city. Lot was walking on the wet grassy hill.
In Chapter 19 Lot falls down the hill when he offers up two virgins in lieu of two men.
My hope with this post is that we as Christian men will not venture out on the slippery slope. What you don’t see in the image is the sidewalk I am standing on. The sidewalk is made of concrete which is rock.
Lord grant us wisdom and courage to stay off the slippery slopes and stand on the ROCK of our salvation. When we are tempted grant us the grace and courage to bring our sin into the the glorious light by connecting with another believer.
In the mighty name above all names, Jesus! Amen!
